About

The Wetaskiwin Hockey Academy is an approved Hockey Canada Skills Academy offered by the Wetaskiwin Regional Public School Division. The WHA is a year round hockey program available to all WRPS students in grades 5-8. An inclusive program, we provide on and off-ice classes for students during the school day. Classes are for all skill levels including new to hockey and advanced. Our staff of 2 Teachers/Instructors and 2 Educational Assistants work with 6 different schools within the City of Wetaskiwin and Town of Millet.

Philosophy

The WHA is committed to providing an opportunity for students to improve and enhance their hockey skills both on and off the ice. With a focus on skill development, we believe that high quality and high quantity repetitions allow students to develop and improve their skills. Students who are dedicated, determined and committed will gain knowledge and skills while bettering their game. PACE DRIVES DEVELOPMENT.

During our on-ice sessions, we believe in skill stations, small-area games and game-like situation drills to optimize skill development. Using Hockey Canada's curriculum, Long-Term Player Development model and Alberta's Physical Education and Health curriculum, we teach technical and tactical drills while providing fun and engaging opportunities for students to learn. Off-ice sessions include fitness activities, floorball training sessions and physical education games/sports, increasing and promoting student's skills, overall health and positive lifestyle.
